Summary

Drives truck to haul materials to and from job sites, such as asphalt, crushed stone, sand, and dirt.
Removes snow from County roads and applies sand/salt mixture to roads during the winter.
Performs road and equipment maintenance duties, including mowing grass, removing trees, brush, and debris, spraying roadsides with chemicals, flagging traffic, sweeping roads, patching potholes, luting, and installing road signs.
May operate roller to smooth asphalt on County roads.
Performs building maintenance, including changing light bulbs and pipe repair.
Installs culvert pipes in ditches, driveways and roads, levels ditches of roads and yards.
Installs and maintains radio systems for Highway department vehicles.
Completes work order forms and activity reports, submits to Foreman.
Performs carpentry work as assigned, including building stairs or walls and pouring concrete.
Assists mechanics occasionally in performing body work on department trucks and equipment, including sandblasting, painting, and general maintenance.
Performs pipe work, welding, light mechanical work, bridge work, and minor operation of equipment.
Dismantles old or damaged bridges, installs new steel beams, guardrails, and girders to bridges.
Installs and maintains fuel tanks around garage.
Removes trash and dead animals from County roads as needed.
Winterizes compaction rollers, including draining water from machine and adding antifreeze to tank and pump.
Serves on 24-hour call for emergencies from November through April.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Experience/Certification Required:
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGES:
High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to operate hand and power tools, including hammer, screw drivers, drills, chain saws, power saw, drill press, post hole digger, air compressor, air hammer, grinder, cutting torch, welding equipment, shovel, rake, mop, broom, sander, and lute.
Ability to operate machinery/equipment, including dump truck, snow plow, front-end loader, bush hog, compaction roller, riding mower, push mower, tractor, jack hammer, street sweeper, and chemical truck.
Ability to work under time pressure and work rapidly for long periods of time.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions and present findings in oral or written form.
Ability to plan and layout work assignments.
Ability to apply knowledge of people and locations.
Ability to compute/calculate, such as project material needs and square feet.
Ability to read/interpret prints, sketches, layouts, specifications, and maps.
Ability to respond to emergencies from off-duty status.
Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend, and evening hours and occasionally travel out of town to pick up parts and equipment, but not overnight.
Ability to meet all hiring requirements, including the passage of a medical exam and drug test.
Possession of a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and demonstrated safe driving record.
