Indiana University East is accepting applications for Chief Diversity Officer and Special Assistant to the Chancellor. The incumbent works concurrently in multiple areas of responsibility while assisting the Chancellor and the Chancellor’s Cabinet with identifying and meeting often unforeseen requests and deadlines. The incumbent serves as a liaison to the IU East community and beyond. In that capacity, the position is charged with managing and executing a wide range of administrative, operational, and executive support activities. This includes coordination and oversight of issues involving academic programs and strategies, as well as a full range of operational and logistical duties relating to the role of Chief Diversity Officer.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :
Serve as IU East Chief Diversity Officer (CDO): Oversee, develop and facilitate programming related to diversity and inclusion efforts, working collaboratively with different faculty, staff and student groups across campus. Lead the implementation, assessment, and revision as needed of the IU East Diversity Plan. Chair the IU East Diversity and Inclusion Committee (or its equivalent). Serve as the IU East liaison to the IU Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs (with dotted-line reporting to that office). Work with the campus Affirmative Action Officer to enhance the diversity of faculty and staff hires through effective search procedures and affirmation of the educational importance of diversity in educational programs.
Track and follow up on the progress of a wide range of projects, programs, initiatives, and activities for the Chancellor and Cabinet. Assess progress to goals/priorities and takes appropriate action to influence outcomes. Keep Chancellor apprised of status and developments. Highlight important issues and areas of concern, ensuring that various perspectives on issues are presented accurately and objectively. Identify and develop responses and alternatives for the Chancellor’s consideration and decision based on a thorough and careful analysis of relevant facts, research, conditions and circumstances.
Serve as an internal and external liaison for the campus and work collaboratively with constituencies on behalf of the Chancellor; may represent the Chancellor on committees, boards, and at all events. Non-traditional work hours are a regular element of the position.
Draft speeches, talking points, presentations, statements, briefings and written communication for the Chancellor ensuring high level of consistency, accuracy, content and presentation for a wide variety of audiences. Work closely with other divisions and offices within IU and IU East to ensure timely and relevant inputs into development of written communication, and in other matters of relevance. Maintain liaison with the Office of External Affairs and other internal areas to maximize strategic communications.

Job Type: Full Time
Bachelor’s degree with at least four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Master’s degree is preferred.
